As featured in...

You can now read some blurbs about me in a feature on bluesinlondon.com - the site where I've been resident 'photo-monkey' for nigh on five years now. Check out the print shop here

Oil City Confidential

Great night at Koko recently where Julien Temple's documentary about Canvey Island misfits Dr Feelgood was premiered, closely followed by a raucous gig from Wilko Johnson and guests. The film is very good although after a while, the comparison likening the Feelgoods to dodgy bank robbers became a bit tiresome. Overall though it's a well put together film with some fantastic sequences where Wilko is being interviewed (with obligatory Telecaster) in front of Canvey's sea wall, or in front of refinery tanks or run-down amusements.

The gig was pretty good too, despite an increasingly drunken Temple occasionally lurching on to rant about "rock n roll cinema"... there were also some slightly odd special guests, Alison Moyet - who delivered a rousing 'Down by the Jetty', rock n roll accordion supremo Slim (who definitely added to 'Woolly Bully' - I've never seen an accordion played behind the head Hendrix-style before!). There was also harmonica support from rock journo, Charles Shaar Murray...

35mm Camera Sale

I've decided it's time to reduce my collection of 35mm cameras currently swamping the shelves in the spare room, and there's now a bunch for sale on Ebay (links to listings are below). It's sort of sad to see them go, but I really have got too many, and if they're not being used regularly, they'll surely be better off in new homes...

Nikon FM2n - Body
Zeiss Ikon Contessa - Rangefinder
Yashica Electro 35 GSN - Rangefinder
Pentax P30 - Plus 50mm lens
Lomo LC-A Kompakt

Giant Lumix

A huge POS display located in Liverpool Street Station recently, apparently highlighting the camera's generous screen. See some more of my pics taken with an old-fashioned Olympus XA2 here

Rogered Lomo

I picked up my much neglected Lomo LC-A from repair supremo and all round good egg, Roger Lean last week. It turned out the circuit board was shot as well as the frame counter! I've recently taken to using the Olympus XA2 as my shoot from the hip pocket camera these days, so was thinking to perhaps sell the LC-A. The optics on the Olympus are obviously far superior and as it works in almost exactly the same way as a Lomo... AE mode / three manual fixed focus points, it seems like a sensible decision. However, I have to admit to a certain nostalgia for the wonky little Russian fella. And for anyone considering buying one of the new Chinese-made models, Roger tells me they have more plastic components than the Russian versions, including some of the gears involved in film transport (not ideal!).
